Taking Photos in Public

Observation & Taking Stock We were all instructed to go into the ‘field’ and document the various ways people interact with their environment. Some of us stayed at home and documented ways our family members interact with each other over a meal; some of us went to Korean hot baths; and some of us went to the mall.

We didn’t limit our observation to digital interactions at this particular point in time. We just went out and took a whole bunch of photos. It was an interesting way to start the process of design, this method of documenting & collecting, as versus going straight to Adobe Creative Suite.

2books Nicolas recommended were very helpful. One was about using photos as a method of documentation in ethnographic studies, the other, a beautifully-illustrated book on the way people gathered/disperse/loiter/move through various cities in the world. Amazing.
