Interview Redux

Behavior + Insight The regiment of starting with field observations and interviews is an interesting proposition for designers who are used to sketching as the beginning of a typical design process. For most of us (Katie, Nancy, Walt), this is a brand new way of approaching and thinking about a design brief.

However, at least for me (Walt speaking), the ethnographic component of CURIOUS RITUALS has been very rewarding in terms of getting a more nuanced understanding of user context, something one does not get from sketching and ideation on paper alone.

Between the Nova + Lab team, we interviewed twenty five users for RITUALS. The interviews were semi-structured; we had a set of questions we were interesting in for our research, but we were also interested in what the interviewers has to say about their own everyday digital routines.
